Is it time to “spring” for some new gear?
Spring is right around the corner. If you’re itching to get out at the first sign of asphalt, it’s time to check your gear and “spring” for some replacements that’ll keep you riding all season long.
What to look for when checking your gear:
Make sure your gear still fits. We’ve all put on those pandemic pounds. Time to check that the gear still fits! (or hit the gym… but if you’re like me, you’d rather ride than lift). Gear should be snug but you’ve got to be able to breathe and move freely, from head to toe.

Examine your gear for damage. Check for worn areas (did you get a knee down last year and need new pucks?) Also Check for frayed seams, or rips in the fabric. You may need your gear to stand up to a slide (hopefully not) so any worn areas are weak points. New gear is a good investment and much less painful than road rash!

Clean your textile gear. Gear gets dirty from bugs, street grime, and body oils. If you were a January hero, salt and sand from the roads. Give it a good cleaning by soaking it in a gentle soap and warm water if you didn’t do so before storing it over the winter.
Treat your leathers. Keep your leathers looking fresh by treating them with leather care cream (always check with the manufacturer so that you don’t compromise the stitching and other parts that protect you in a slide). Wash your leathers by wiping them down with a clean sponge with mild soap and warm water. This will open the pores to accept the cream and keep the leather supple yet resilient. We can order what you need (see parts can and kimpex).
Check your lid. Your head is the most important part to protect while riding. Spring is a great time to replace a scratched and pitted visor, and to check for signs of damage on the helmet. A dropped helmet should always be replaced. Check the date stamp on your helmet and be aware of how long it will last. Typically they should be replaced every 5 years of riding due to degradation of protective materials from UV, heat and body oils. Remember the lining is removable and should be washed to get that funky smell out. Removing the liner lets you inspect the liner itself for wear (replacements are available) and allows you to see if there is any damage on the shell’s interior foam and protective materials. Production dates are usually indicated on a sticker under the liner, or stamped onto the strap.

Prepare for Spring time riding. Spring weather means cold in the morning, warm in the afternoon and random rain turning to snow without warning at any point in the day. Make sure you have your rain-gear on hand and layer up to stay warm. Insulated gloves are always a good idea to keep clutching-in and braking easy.
